...my true love gave to me, as the song tells us "Six geese a-laying". I don't know about you, but I'm not sure that I would like to receive one goose, let alone six running around my home. If my true love gave them to me I really don't think that I would be very grateful. Today is also the penultimate day of the year. For some of us, the thought of a new year fills us with dread; for others we may be looking forward to saying goodbye to this previous year for one reason o
Is it better to give or receive? Don't get me wrong, I love to receive gifts. When my birthday and Christmas approach, I am asked by my family to make a list of things I would like to receive, so I dutifully obey. I find it very difficult to remember what I want. Through the year I often think, 'I could do with...' but when it comes around to making my list, I forget all those things and sit trying to think of things to put on it. I love opening my parcels and seeing what
Today, we decided to have a walk into the city. The sun was out but the wind was quite cold. It's difficult to know what to wear because walking makes you hot, however, not being wrapped up enough means that you will be cold. Rain, snow and ice had caused the river banks to burst and new rivers and ponds were formed, not only across the banks, but across some of the pathways making them impassable. A cyclist gave us the "heads up" that the pathway was flooded ahead so we
Yesterday we spent the day with a couple who are very close to our hearts. We had a lovely day with plenty of food and drink and lots of fun and laughter together, especially playing games as teams. It was a mild day and evening temperature-wise. We were very comfortable in every way and enjoyed our time together. When I woke up this morning, I heard an exclaimation and wondered what was going on. It turns out that the mild night had turned into a snowy one with about fou
I know that generally speaking we say, ‘old or new’, but I wanted to turn it upside down because life can be turned upside down so easily; a chance meeting, a wrong decision, health issues; the list is endless. Like many others, I’ve had my fair share of disasters and bad things happening to me, however, I have always said that it’s what we do with those things that counts. This was born out for me, and I felt confirmation in my heart when recently, Bishop Stephen Cottrell vi
Before we got up yesterday morning, we could hear the rain falling outside our bedroom window. When my husband brought me my morning drink, he said, "Well it's not raining, after all." My mind was slowly beginning to actually wake up and I replied with a question, "Snow?" Fresh fallen snow, looks beautiful; the sound of falling snow is magical; getting wrapped up in warm clothing, stepping out, and hearing the crunch underfoot as you step into the fresh snow for the first ti
I'm very excited about my new website. I am still constructing it and getting my old blogs moved across, but it is much more user friendly and easier to use. Enjoy and your feedback is very much appreciated.
Glitter and lights, with all things nice, shiny and bright, as dark draws nigh. Outside it is freezing, but what is the reason, to bring all those trees in to celebrate the season? My research tells me, that it is Germany who started the decorated Christmas tree tradition as we now know it, back in the 16th century. It is said that Martin Luther (a 16th century protestant reformer) first added lighted candles to a tree when he was walking home one winter evening, composing a
