The Heart, Part Two

So yesterday I spoke about looking after your heart, physically. Today, I want to talk about the emotional side.

"My heart goes out to you."

"I love you with my whole heart."

"My heart bleeds for you."

"My heart will go on."

"I give you my heart."

"They live in my heart."

Just a few phrases we have either heart or used from time to time. Yes our heart has a physical function, to enable our body to function correctly.

How do we give our heart to someone? Do we physically take our heart out of our body and give it to someone else? Of course we don't. It would mean the end of our physical existence if we did.

Five Hearts with a heart mould

When we pledge our lives to another in marriage, we emotionally give that person our heart, amazing and full. When I became pregnant for the first time, I didn't realise just how much I could love someone else. Then I couldn't imagine ever being able to love another child as much as I loved our first one.

When our daughter, Gabrielle, died, my heart was ripped apart, not physically, but I felt as though it had been ripped out of my chest and I wondered how I would ever be able to live again. There have been other events in my life when I have felt as though a part of my heart has died.

On the other hand, there have been many times when I thought it would burst out of my chest, filled with so much with pride and love.

Whatever fills our heart, fills our lives. If your heart is full of negative emotions; hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness, anger, resentment, despair, to name a few, that is what your life is filled with.

If your heart is full of good things such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, then that is what your life will be filled with.
