An Insurance Policy?
A Lent Challenge
A number of years ago, someone I worked with talked about faith with me. He had been brought up in a Methodist family and had since lost his faith. I have lost touch with him and so have no idea whether or not he has found it again, but I have never forgotten him.
In one of our conversations, I told him that I wasn't hurting anyone by living as a Christian and owning the faith, and if, as he now believed, there was nothing after death, I haven't caused myself any harm. However, if it is all true, I will have won. He replied, "...so it's your insurance policy then."
I still stand by what I said to him and the answer I gave his semi-question/statement, that my faith is absolutely not my insurance policy.
I am sure that we have all had friends/family/collegues whom we know have just been going through the motions. They have tolerated us, or us them, but we don't really like each other very much. We can tell who is genuine and who is not.
If we have faith just as an insurance policy, I am sure that those people we meet will be able to see through it eventually. I know that God will see it immediately.
Christianity is a way of life, a personal relationship with Jesus. We will still have seemingly impossible mountains to climb and loads of issues to face because we are living on earth. We will also still have many unanswered questions.
We do, however, have the promise of paradise for eternity when we accept Jesus as our Saviour, and He promises that we will have help through all those tough times.
Do you have that personal relationship or are you going through the motions as insurance for what you don't understand.
