...my true love gave to me; Ten Lords a-leaping. This gift refers to the Ten Commandments.
My regular readers will know that I am a Christian, however, it is not only Christians for whom these commandments play a fundamental role in their lives; I may be mistaken, but I do believe that Judaism and Islam also feel they are impoartant.
Faith aside, it doesn't take a genius to work out that if we all lived by the Ten Commandments, the world would be a much nicer place to live in. The laws of most countries in the world, are actually not so very different from them.
So food for thought today, whether you have faith or not:-
If we have faith, put God first, if not, perhaps faith is worth thinking about.
If we kept the Sabbath holy, or at least had a day off with our families, we could rest, recharge and grow closer to each other.
Blasphemy, apart from being against God, it offends some people so maybe we should think twice about doing it.
Idolatry means we have an extreme worship of something or someone, for some of us that is money, for others possessions, a friend, pop/film star…anything really. This can lead to us to live by the wrong standards.
Honouring our parents can sometimes seem a tricky one for those whose parents are not what parents should be, but if we all respected each other, this wouldn't be a problem.
If we don’t covet what others have, we could maybe be satisfied with what we have got.
Adultery, Theft, Dishonesty and Murder…well we all know where they lead, don’t we?
So, on this tenth day of Christmas, would you like to be in possession of, exhibit and share in these gifts? I think it's yet another wonderful set of gifts from this "thoughtful true love" and it is a set of gifts freely available to all.
