Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Last night we celebrated with friends, a few drinks and nibbles and we played a few games. The one which brought out the competitive streak, was "His and Hers" with each team pulling out all the stops to win!

We all had a good laugh as we said 'goodbye' to the old year and 'hello' to the new one.

Everyday is an opportunity to start afresh, but, as the first day of a New Year, today lends itself even more to a new beginning.

For some of us that will be a bid to create a new look, maybe slimmer, or fitter, perhaps a new wardrobe; or it could be to decorate our homes, move to a new home...or a whole host of other things.

The Bible begins with the story of creation. Many have tried to scientifically dispute this story but if you look at the story, it works alongside science.

Many think that Jesus didn't appear until the New Testament, however, in John's gospel we read the (tongue-twister) passage familiar at Carol Services, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the Light of all mankind. The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.'

In Genesis God made mankind in 'our image' and so when we read the other clues in the Bible, such as the John passage, we come to realise that God the Trinity is there in the beginning and not just in the New Testament.

As Christians, we believe that God created a perfect world, including us. We messed up and made it imperfect.

When our children mess up and don't live out the lives we hoped for, our live for them enables us to continue loving them and giving them new chances. So too did God for us.

Throughout the Old Testament years, He kept giving mankind instruction, discipline and chances to atone for our wrong-doing. When we still messed up, He sent His Son in human form, Jesus, as the ultimate sacrifice, our atonement for sin, and pathway to heaven.

It is never too late for us to accept this Truth and start again.

New Year...New Start...New Life...New You!

They all begin today if we want them to. So how about it? Most of us don't know when the end of our life is coming or if well have time to prepare for it so let's not hesitate in making this first day of a New Year count.
